BQ24232HA: Want to adjust operationg temperature.

Part Number: BQ24232HA

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer is testing BQ24232HA for their next project.

Datasheet says that "The nominal temperature range to allow charging is 0°C to 50°C when using a typical 103AT-2 type thermistor."

And they want to adjust the temperature to 0°C to 45°C.

Could you support to adjust maximum charging temperature to 45°C using Rs,Rp resistor and rignt thermistor?

(minimum temperature does not matter, just adjust maximum charging temerature because of the specification of battery.)

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    Please see my comments below.

Unfortunately, as mentioned in datasheet section 7.3.5.1 the addition of Rs and Rp resistors can extend the temperature range, but it cannot reduce the temperature range. The customer will need to select the appropriate thermistor where the hot trip value corresponds with 45°C rather than 50°C.

Referring to the 103AT-2 datasheet the thermistor has a resistance of 4160 ohms at 50°C. The customer would need to select a thermistor with a comparable resistance at 45°C.

An alternate option is to consider a BQ2407xT part, which has very similar functionality and pinout to BQ24232HA (they do not have ITERM pin option). This product family uses voltage based TS pin measurement and therefore have more flexibility when setting charging temperature range via resistor selection.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
