LM70840-Q1: Regarding Shunt Resistor

Part Number: LM70840-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

We are planning to use the LM70840-Q1 buck converter in our product. We have a query regarding the shunt resistor (Rs) recommended in the design. If we don't want to use the sensing functionality, what are the recommendations for the ISNS+ and Vout pin? Can we connect ISNS+ to GND and Vout to output voltage if we don't want the sensing functionality?

Thanks,

  • Hi,

The shunt resistor is used to set the current limit. Without the sense resistor, there is a potential of a catastrophic failure if a short occurs at the output.

If you don't want the sensing functionality, you can short both ISNS+ and VOUT to the output.
