Clarification on NC Pin (Pin 8) Connection for TPS281C30

I am currently working with the TPS281C30 and noticed a discrepancy between the datasheet and the evaluation board (EVM). In the datasheet, it is mentioned that the NC pin (Pin 8) should be left floating. However, on the evaluation board, this pin is connected to ground.

Could you kindly clarify which connection should be followed in practical use? Additionally, is there a specific reason for grounding Pin 8 in the EVM?

  • Hi Santhosh,

As per the data sheet these NC pins have no internal connection, so leaving them floating or connecting them to GND is ok, there will be no functional difference. On the EVM, Pin 8 was connected to the IC ground plane to improve thermal performance.

    Thanks,

    Patrick
