BQ40Z50-R2: max shell temperature or junction temperature

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ41Z50, BQ40Z50

Tool/software:

We are testing the temperature rise of bq40z50r2 chip on the product. Could you please tell us the maximum allowable shell temperature or junction temperature of this chip? There is a gap between the ambient temperature and the chip temperature, and only the working ambient temperature of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius in the manual, which cannot be used to judge the temperature limit of the chip itself. The ambient temperature of the bq41z50 chip is also -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, but the description is added: Functional ambient temperature-40 to 105 degrees Celsius.

  • Hello,

The functional temperature spec is an ABS MAX specification. What that means is that the ambient temperature must not exceed these limits while it's powered up without potentially causing damage. For the bq40z50, the operating temperature max is 85 Celsius, this will be the junction temperature.

    Regards,

    Adrian
