LMR38020: Inrush destroys the chip? (Chip explodes when low impedance source is connected)

Part Number: LMR38020

Tool/software:

I have a LMR38020SDDAR on my board, using the reference design from webench.

It works fine when supplied by a power supply, but when I tested it with a LiFePO4 battery at 56v the chip exploded.

Adding a series resistance as low as 1 ohm protects the chip. A 500mΩ resistance did not work, the chip was destroyed.

This still happens with the output filter removed, so the only load is 2x 47uF caps.

When operating with no load the input current is 110uA at 56v.

Why is this happening? See schematic attached.
