BQ40Z50-R2: BQ40Z50-R2

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

Tool/software:

Dear support,

I have a question regarding the settings I have to apply in the Battery management studio.

My gauge is the BQ40Z50-R2, my battery is a 4S cell LiPol battery pack. Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3,7V and 16.800mAh capacity, max charge current 4,2V.

I already used this cell with a single cell setup.

My question is: do i have to set the setting in the Data Memory page for one cell, or the whole pack (4S)

For example is the charging voltage then 4*4,2V (16,8V) or just 4,2V?

is designe capacity per cell (4*16,8Ah) or per pack 16,8Ah

FC, FD... per cell or for the whole pack?

Thank you!

BR,

Martin

  • Hello Martin,

For FD, FC, TD, and TC those values need to be set for one cell. Voltage parameters in the Advance Charge Algo. section need to be the voltage of the entire pack.

  • Thank you for the quick response.
And for the Protections, Power and Gas Gauging field should I set the values also for the pack or for a single cell?

  • Hello Martin,

I would recommend looking over the TRM to answer this question as there are many parameters in each of these sections. Too many for me to go through each one. Section 15.16 of the TRM describes the data flash table. This shows parameter names as well as min value and max value. If a data memory parameter is to be set for a single cell then the max value would be something like 5V (since the majority of single cell battery chemistry is less than 5V). If the max value is something higher, like 32767 then its for the entire pack.

    Regard,

    Adrian
