TPS754: TPS7A5401 Inquiry About Temperature LDO Specifications

Part Number: TPS754
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A54

Tool/software:

I am looking for a low-noise LDO that can output 5V at a 4A load and handle an operating temperature of -55°C. I came across the TPS715401. However, I am confused about the difference between operating junction temperature and operating temperature. Can this device operate at -55°C as specified?

  • Hi Jonel,

The -40C to +125C temperature range is the standard temperature range for datasheet graphs and component characterization in most of our LDO's.  LDO's which are rated -EP are the exception and will have test results and EC table data across the wider operating conditions.  During the validation of the TPS7A54, we also looked at a wider temperature range which is why you see the maximum temperature conditions in the datasheet.  You should be able to use the TPS7A54 at -55C to +150C but these wider temperature values will go outside of the EC table and graphs we have placed in the datasheet.  Thus, you will see slightly more tolerance in your measurements at these temperatures and you should evaluate the LDO in your application accordingly. It may be a good idea to purchase an EVM and evaluate the device to confirm it will meet your needs.

    Thanks,

    Stephen
