LM74930-Q1: Question regarding disabling reverse current blocking, and it's effect on the IMON pin.

Part Number: LM74930-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I have a follow up question for the related post this is attached to:

For the LM74930-Q1 ideal diode controller, what are the implications of the following?

  1. Figure 8-1 in the datasheet shows a D1 diode connecting PIN Out A and PIN Vs.
    1. What is the purpose of this diode - is it the same as the related thread?
    2. How would I size the D1 diode for Voltage and current ratings?

  2.  If I wanted to disable the reverse current blocking function by using the MODE pin connecting to GND in this scenario, what would happen to the current measurement IMON pin in the case of:
    1. When the current flow from the battery goes to the load?
    2. When the current flow from the load goes to the battery?
  • Hi Max,

    1. a. Diode D1 is present to provide a power path for the current VS pin needs. Due to series resistor(10k) VS does not get the required current during startup.

    1. b. Current that passes through the diode is very low. Hence a small diode with VIN (max) + 15V should be fine. You can refer to our EVM for part number that works fine.

2.a. When the current flows from battery to load, IMON works as expected

2.b. When current flows from load to battery, IMON will not provide any reading.
