TPS25730: Capability for sending/receiving unstructured vendor-defined messages

Part Number: TPS25730

Tool/software:

I am trying to find a low-cost USB-PD IC for a UFP application capable of receiving VDMs sent by a connected power source and passing the information to an MCU or SoC. The TPS25730 datasheet says that the I2C interface is capable of "supporting communications to/from a connected device" which sounds like it could refer to a method of sending or receiving VDMs using the 25730. I just wanted to get confirmation of whether this was or was not a function included in the 25730 or another low-cost TI IC.

Thank you

  • Hi Fowler,

The TPS25730 likely does not support what you are looking for, as it's I2C interface is fairly limited.

When you say VDMs, what specific information are you looking for?

I would recommend checking the TPS25751 and it's TRM to see if it reports the information you are interested in.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
