Hi, TI experts!

Using BQ40z50-r1 4 series battery PACK, the customer used the battery to plug and unplug the device (no power on, battery voltage 16.4V), after several rounds of testing, the battery PACK-, PACK+ no voltage output, with EV2400 can not communicate with the battery. Finally, power on PACK- and PACK+ and activate it to communicate. What is the reason for this?

Hello Chengxue,

The gauge was probably asleep or in shutdown. You can wake up the device by shorting BAT and PACK pin, or by applying a voltage on the PACK pin.

The battery voltage is 16.4V(4.1V/cell), The shutdown voltage is 2.7V,The battery is good at first.It took several insertions before it became unresponsive,So I want to know why there is no output.

Hello Chengxue,

The act of unplugging the battery the battery was causing the bq40z50 to enter shutdown or sleep mode. When voltage is applied on PACK- and PACK+ this causing the gauge to enter back into active mode and is possible to communicate with the gauge again.

Not disconnecting the battery cell from the PCBA，IS Repeat the plug and unplug test on the machine。After plugging and unplugging 5-6 times, there is no voltage output and communication is not possible。

Please keep the battery plugged in, and have a voltage applied on the PACK pin.

Hello Chengxue,

I have explained that the FETs are off, and communication issue is probably because the gauge went into shutdown mode or is not even powered up at all.
