BQ25890H: Question about E-spec of BQ25890H

Part Number: BQ25890H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25601D

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I want to double check with you about the following questions for both BQ25890H and BQ25601D:

  • For PG_STAT, VBUS_STAT register, what is the threshold voltage[Both rising & falling] to change them? Vbus_min=3.9V or VBUS_UVLOZ=3.6V or another threshold?
  • If the Vbus voltage drop from 5V to 3.7V, will it change the above register value?

Thanks.

Frank

  • Hello Frank,

I will look into this tomorrow from BQ25601D perspective.

    Regards,

    Mike Emanuel

  • Hi Frank,

On 1 unit, BQ25601D VBUS_STAT changes to "no input" and PG_STAT changes to "not power good" at VBUS of 4.14 V and VBAT of 4.00 V with charge disabled. The BQ2601D VBUS_STAT changes to the appropriate input and PG_STAT changes to "power good" at VBUS of 4.21 V and VBAT of 4.00 V with charge disabled. Please keep in mind this is one unit, and not necessarily characteristic of all units.

Ning will fill in for the BQ25890H.

    Mike Emanuel

  • Hi Frank,

    A. The PG_STAT and VBUS_STAT bits are set after Input Source Type Detection. All the requirements listed in 1, 2, and 3 below need to be passed. Please refer to the d/s for the details.

Referring to 8.2.3 Device Power Up from Input Source, when an input source is plugged in, the power up sequence from input source is as listed:

    1. Power Up REGN LDO

    2. Poor Source Qualification

    3. Input Source Type Detection based on D+/D- to set default Input Current Limit (IINLIM) register and input source type

    B. It depends on the BAT pin voltage. If the REGN is off when the below conditions are not valid, i.e. in HIZ mode, VBUS_STAT and PG_STAT bits should be 0.

    1. VBUS above VVBUS_UVLOZ

    2. VBUS above VBAT + VSLEEPZ in buck mode

If 1 & 2 are met, but the device is stuck in poor source qualification, VBUS_STAT and PG_STAT bits should be 0.

BTW, which customer is this inquiry for? could you please email the project info to us?

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi Ning,

    Thanks for the comments.

For my understanding, the PG_STAT and VBUS_STAT will be changed until BQ25890H fulfill the above conditions, however, if VBUS=3.9V, can BQ25890H fulfill all the conditions? If not, what is the min voltage to fulfill the above conditions.

    Thanks.

    Frank

  • Hi Mike,

I think your response is not very clear, not sure which voltage reference should I take for the VBUS_STAT changes? Any min voltage value? Thanks.

    BR.

    Frank

  • Hi Frank,

For the BQ25601D, to explain it another way, the sleep comparator needs to be reached to turn REGN on, which is a requirement to power up the input. This is based on the battery voltage, so I cannot give you a specific voltage at which VBUS_STAT will turn on as it depends on the battery voltage. The PG_STAT bit also depends on the device exiting sleep mode, which depends on the battery voltage. We do not specifically specify at which voltage these bits will turn on/off at.

Similar to BQ25890H, REGN Power Up, Poor Source Qualification, and Input Source Type Detection are needed to enable the bits.

    Regards,

    Mike Emanuel
