BQ25120F3A: Please clarify the CD# pin functionalities with presence and without presence of External VIN

Part Number: BQ25120F3A

Tool/software:

Hi ,

As per BQ25120F3A  datasheet ,  CD# pin function is mentioned as : "Drive CD#  pin  low to place the part in High-Z mode with battery only present, or enable charging when VIN is valid. Drive CD# pin  high for Active Battery mode when battery only is present, and disable charge when VIN is present"

Please clarify :

1. Is  HI-Z mode (CD# pin= Low with only battery connected)  will exit when connect  a charger with valid VIN ? Means  Battery charging  is enabled because of CD# low ?

2. Is  Active mode (CD# pin= High  with only battery connected)  will exit when connect  a charger with valid VIN ? Means  Battery charging  is disabled  because of CD# High  ?

  • Hi PSG-4,

Is  HI-Z mode (CD# pin= Low with only battery connected)  will exit when connect  a charger with valid VIN ? Means  Battery charging  is enabled because of CD# low ?

Yes, if /CD is low so the device is in Hi-Z, then a charger is connected, the device will enter Charging state.

Is  Active mode (CD# pin= High  with only battery connected)  will exit when connect  a charger with valid VIN ? Means  Battery charging  is disabled  because of CD# High  ?

That's right, if /CD is high so device is in Active battery, when a charger is connected the device will enter the "Ready" state. It will not charge until /CD is pulled low.
