LM5157-Q1: LM5157QRTERQ1

Part Number: LM5157-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello TI team,

I am working on creating calculation for the use of LM5157-Q1, however, I did not find any document reference to calculate the power loss on the IC, and only the calculation tool is depicting a extreme value above 1W around 9W but this power loss will be at the output of the IC.

Could you please share any reference to verify this value?

  • Hi Arnulfo,

    Thanks for reaching out.

    Please have a look at this appnote: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snva940/snva940.pdf

    On page 7 and 8, the calculations are described.

    Best regards

    Moritz

  • Hello Moritz,

    I appreciate your quickly response let me share some comments about the share appnote:

    *Page 7 and 8 are depicting some equations, but I think, could some of them  be omitted?

    I mean, the  LM5157QRTERQ1 IC contains internally the mosfet, and datasheet is not providing all the data related to this component so the power loss calculation for Pic is calculate as follows:

    but the gate charge of the mosfet is not shared on datasheet, I would be ablle to calculate but even the capacitance of the mosfet is not shared as well.

    I could use this formula to math the power loss over the IC using the PQ formula:

    but, one more time, I notice that I need the tr and tf value and these values are not share on datasheet, would I have to estimate or something like that?

    Let me know if I am wrong, because normally to calculate some values to know the power loss, values from the mosfet specifically are needed.

  • Hi Arnulfo,

    If you would like to get the losses on the Converter you can also use the Quickstart calculator and calculate back from the IC temperature shown in the graph with

    IC_Temp =  Ta+Tk*IC_Loss

    with

    Ta= Ambient Temperature (Ta) entered in H77

    Tk = 60K/W (per Datasheet)

    Best regards,
