LM5171: lm5171 maximum power

Tool/software:

I am designing a bidirectional power management device that produces and consumes energy.
The LM5171 power controller seems to be the right candidate.
I am trying to determine the maximum power that can be put into play with a single LM5171 component.
According to your experience with the chip, can we claim to realize a 2kW DC/DC converter with a single LM5171 in boost mode.
The power switching is done using external mosfets and this determines the power that can be put into play for the DC/DC converter. The evaluation board demonstrates current capabilities up to 60A. Can we extend them up to 100A?

    Hello Bruno,

    The power limit depends on the used external FETs and if the LM5171 is able to drive enough of the needed FETs in parallel. So in general we recommend up to 1kW with a single device, but this is a rough number based on experience as well as on the thermal performance. If you use a second device, you can spread out the heat better compared to one LM5171.

    What you could do for a first test is preparing a board that can work with a single LM5171, but if you get into thermal limits, having a second circuit prepared on the board and just populate it if needed. What do you think?
