LM5180: HV AC output flyback convertor

Part Number: LM5180

Tool/software:

Hello, I'm designing a power supply that will be able to provide high voltage (about 500-600V) low current (on the order of 1-2 mA) AC. I have a working solution, but I'm not satisfied with its footprint and absence of HV regulation. I want to optimize it, by introducing flyback converter IC. As far as I can see, LM5180 could do the trick, but it seems a bit rare and relatively pricey. Are there any alternatives? There are lots of semi-legacy ICs by Analog Devices designed to charge xenon flashes, but I'm struggling to find a suitable active IC to do it. Can you help me with it, or at least recommend direction of search? The transformer could be custom wound.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Vera,

Thank you for reaching out.  The LM5180 is a good choice especially if your high output voltage needs output regulation. TI has other flyback devices, and you can choose from at the TI.com by click Products tab, then get to the page of AC/DC & DC/DC converters (integrated FET):

Then scroll down, you can see the Isolated section, under which there is the flyback products summary page. You can choose a suitable part there.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Youhao
