TPS23881B: device recommendation

Part Number: TPS23881B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23881

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer  product input signal is POE, it is going through power and data, we want to get the 30W power and 480Mbps data rating, means we need at least the POE-PD chipset support class 5, like 802.3bt.

Could you please help to comment suitable to me? thanks! if TPS23881B is suitable?

Other about the POE, what is the technical difference between the Class 4 with Class 5? Could you please share more information to me?

Thanks

Lillian

  • Hi Lillian,

Please see selection chart for PSE that support >30W. Main difference between TPS23881 and TPS23881B is the feature of autonomous mode which eliminates the need for host controller to configure the device.

Anything above 30W requires 4-Pair power per specification. Class 5 allows for up to 45W at the PSE .

Class 5 is included in the 4th finger during classification based on IEE specification.

For more information on PoE and classification of power, please checkout the videos here.

    Regards,

    Brandon
