BQ79616-Q1: I want to sample code for BQ79616-Q1

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79616

Tool/software:

We are planning to design a high-voltage battery storage using lithium-ion battery cells.
We are considering TI's BQ79616-Q1 BMS IC.
The voltage of the energy storage is 400V ~ 500V, and we are planning to use about 10 BMS ICs connected in a daisy chain.
We are considering using UART for communication with the control MCU.
I have the following questions and am leaving an inquiry.

1. Please advise whether it is better to use BQ79600 interface I.C in this system or to use BQ79616 IC as base and stack.
2. What is the role of the cell balancing timer?
2-1. Is cell balancing not applied continuously, but MCU has to judge the start condition and give a start command?
3. I need a simple sample code. Is it possible to support it?
(I applied for a secure resource, but it was rejected. I don't know why.)

  • Yang,

    1) The BQ79600 adds additional safety features and allows you to communicate using SPI. The additional features may be necessary or it may be an unnecessary cost. I cannot decide if it is better for your system or not.

    2) The cell balancing timer, as the name suggests, can stop cell balancing after a certain amount of time. You can also set a threshold after which cell balancing will stop. It is up to the MCU to determine when it is appropriate to cell balance, it is not automatic.

    3) According to the logs, you were denied secure resource access because you used a personal email domain. Please retry with your company email. The secure resources have sample code that you can reference.

    Regards,

    Ben
