Tool/software:

I want to flash the firmware via USBCPD-APPLICATION-CUSTOMIZATION-TOOL and wanted to know which connection to I need? Can I use the usb connection to the TPS25750 or do I have to use a USB to I2C converter?

Hi Andreas,

Thank you for reaching out!

Are you currently using the TPS25750EVM or a custom board? There is a micro-B connector on the EVM that would be connected to the PC via a micro-B to Type-A cable in order for the TIVA to communicate with the GUI tool.

Also I do want to highlight our follow-on device, the TPS25751, recommended for all new designs. Please see the following FAQ.

we have a custom design without any usb to i2c converter and I think I have to use a usb to i2c converter like this one (https://at.rs-online.com/web/p/entwicklungstools-kommunikation-und-drahtlos/7570054 ). If I connect this converter to the dedicated pins SCL, SDA, GND I can also program it with the gui? Thanks

Hi Andreas,

The Application Customization Tool is used in conjunction with our EVMs. The FTDI breakout module linked will not work with the GUI tool.

I suggest using the GUI tool to generate the full flash binary image, and then use a different method to flash the EEPROM. We use the TotalPhase Aardvark for our internal development.

Thanks a lot. So if I add the I2C EEPROM it would be possible to flash a predefined firmware into the eeprom which will be loaded on startup of the TPS25750.
What is the behaviour if I don't use the EEPROM and plug in the usb-c source to the TPS25750. Does it begin to charge or do we have to communicate via I2C with it? Thanks

There are two ways to load the firmware or patch bundle onto the TPS25750/1 (See table below)

For more information on how to load the patch via MCU, see the flow chart in section 5 of the Technical Reference Manual.
