TPS62870: comp caculation

Part Number: TPS62870
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62869, TPSM82866C

Tool/software:

Hi,

We may using TPS62870 to using on Vout 1.2V and 1.8V condition.

How to optimization comp value in these two voltage?

I use wenbench tool but seem Rcomp and Ccomp is totally different.

Thanks!

Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Do you have specific transient requirements to meet?  What would you like to optimize for?

On your schematic, you need more input capacitance.  The 220nH inductance is ok, but is higher than usually used.  Also, the PG pin is shorted to GND.

We also have the smaller, simpler TPSM82866C power module, which can do 6A with I2C.  Or the TPS62869 discrete IC.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

No specific transient requirements, we just want check comp value can both meet 1.2V and 1.8V.

Or we can choose one of comp value is fine?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Jeff,

Yes, the same compensation can be used for different output voltages, especially if there is no transient requirement.  An Rcomp of 400 Ohm and Ccomp of 10nF provides very stable operation, even with very little output capacitance.
