LP5030: Using laser diodes with LP5030

Part Number: LP5030

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am planning to use the LP5030 to drive red laser diodes. Each laser diode has operating voltage of 2.5V and operating current of 25mA. The project will include 60 laser diodes. Is the LP5030 suitable for driving laser diodes?

I am considering whether to use two LP5030s, with each channel of them drives a diiferent laser diode. Alternatively, can I use a single LP5030 to drive all 60 laser diodes, with each channel connected to two laser diodes in parallel or in series? If so, what is the maximum number of laser diodes that can be driven by a single channel of the driver?

Thank you.

  • Hi Bleda,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Frist, connect 2 diode in parallel in 1 channel can work. But in your application, the limitation is your output current since your requirements is 25mA. LP5030 is usually recommended for support maximum 35mA per channel. So, if you connect 2 laser diode in parallel, the output current can't meet your requirements.

I will recommend to use 2pcs LP5030 for total 60 laser diode. Please let me know if you have any other concern.

    BR, Jared
