TPS61280D: OCP and transient response required

Part Number: TPS61280D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61280A, , TPS61280E

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Lenovo smart phone team want to evaluate our TPS61280A (or TPS61280D).  the following transient response waveform is required:

Under Boost mode:

VIN=3.2V, VOUT=3.8VCout=22uF*2, Trise<1us, T = 1ms

  1. 0A->7.5A/5us
  2. 2A->7.5A/5us
  3. 0A->7.5A/10us
  4. 2A->7.5A/10us

Could you please help to get the 4 waveforms as above?  In MTK, the passing criteria is:

1.  Vout >= 2.5V for all time

2.  Vout drop duration < 20us.

In addition, the customer also has the following questions, which I failed to find in D/S:

1. Whats OCP trigger value for boost mode?

2. What’s the condition to go from boost mode to bypass mode automatically in normal operation?  and what is that condition if OCP is triggered?

Please have a look,

Thank you,

Charles

  • Hi Charles,

    Thanks for reaching out.

    We recommend to promote TPS61280E, which is a newest version of TPS61280x series, with higher current capability and better load transient performance.

    1. Whats OCP trigger value for boost mode?

    For the OCP value, you could find it in d/s as below, which is the inductor valley current limit.

    2. What’s the condition to go from boost mode to bypass mode automatically in normal operation?  and what is that condition if OCP is triggered?

    For TPS61280E, the bypass mode exit is triggered when the output voltage reaches the pre-defined threshold*0.98 (etc, 3.8V * 0.98=3.724V).

    About the OCP triggered in boost mode, you could refer to 9.4.4 Current Limit Operation.

    About the OCP triggered in bypass mode, the device will shutdown and cycles through a start-up procedure until the OCP is release.

    Could you please help to get the 4 waveforms as above?

    For this test, could we test with TPS61280E as I said? If it is ok, please send a mail to us, we will reply to you when the results are ready.

    Regards,

    Nathan
