TPS7H2221-SEP: QOD pin current/energy capability

Part Number: TPS7H2221-SEP

Tool/software:

Hi experts

I have the following questions regarding the QOD pin.

  1. What is the peak and/or max sustained current the pin can safely discharge to GND?
  2. What is the max amount of energy the pin can safely discharge to GND?
  3. Is there an upper limit to the capacitor size at maximum output voltage that can be safely discharged?

I reviewed the datasheet but don't see any specs that cover this aspect of the device.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Jim B

  • Hi Jim,

The QOD pin has an absolute V_Max of 6V with the recommended V_Max of 5.5V, and its absolute I_Max follows the I_Max on the datasheet of 1.5A, peak/pulsed of 2.5A, and the recommended I_Max of 1.25A.

Figure 6-6 shows QOD pin's resistance in regard to the input voltage.

As long as the max voltage and current of the QOD pin are followed, the max energy and capacitor shouldn't be a concern.

    Thanks,
