TPS25830A-Q1: How can we enable data switch in CDP mode while connect with a laptop(USB host)?

Hi expert,

My customer is using 25830 in a fixed CDP mode. They now find they need enable data switch to program the soc by USB2.0, the laptop is a USB host/DFP and does not support DRP.

So soc with 25830 can not shake hands with the Type-C port of the laptop and the data switch is off. Do you have any workaround that does not need to change the board design to support this?

The programming is only needed at the factory.

Hi Jass,

When you say "fixed CDP mode," do you mean the CTRL1/2 pins are pulled up/down via resistors and cannot be overdriven by an IO signal?

The typical method for SoC update is to set CTRL1 = 0, which puts the device in client mode. Then use a Type-A to Type-C cable to connect the laptop to the 830A's Type-C port.

When 830A is not in client mode, it will be sourcing VBUS. When the laptop connects, it will also source VBUS. There is going to be a conflict.

Yes, CTRL1/2 are pulled down in hardware and not connected with MCU. If we cannot change board layout, do we have any workaround for this.

Hi Jass,

Per my email, a hardware change is likely required. We need to avoid a VBUS conflict, as well as implement Rd for the host to detect a connection.
