BQ500101: does BQ500101 needs bq501210 to work?

I'm designing a circuit with BQ500101. Application note and datasheet say that BQ501210 (Wireless Power Transmitter Manager) is needed together with (BQ500101) WPC (Qi) 1.2 Compliant Wireless Power Transmitter.

Is it true? I cannot design a wireless power transmitter circuit with a single BQ500101.

Hi,

The BQ500101 requires PWM input, and it is recommended to use BQ501210 for this. You may try other devices in place of the BQ501210, but we recommend you follow the setup in the datasheet.

so even if i use one BQ500101, I need a BQ501210 (Wireless Power Transmitter Manager), correct? can you explain technically why BQ501210 (Wireless Power Transmitter Manager) is needed?

Hi,

BQ500101 requires a pulse width modulated (PWM) input from an external controller in order to function and produce an output voltage.

The PWM signal controls when the two FETs inside BQ500101 will be turned on or off, which will create a waveform on VSW that switches between VIN and GND. The switching waveform on VSW will need to be passed through an external LC filter to create a stable output voltage. The external controller can sense this output voltage, and determine if it needs to adjust the PWM signal.

It is recommended to use BQ501210 as the external controller, according to the schematic in the BQ500101 datasheet.

two more questions.

1) can a MCU GPIO be connected to PWM input? we are using CC3230SF12RGKR MCU.

2) If I need to use Wireless Power Transmitter Manager, BQ501210 is not recommended for the new design. Are any new parts replacing BQ501210 (Wireless Power Transmitter Manager)?

So long as the MCU can produce a PWM on its GPIO output it should be able to work with BQ500101.

Sorry but do not have a replacement for the BQ501210, 15W wireless power TX.

The BQ500101 could be driven by an MCU.

The BQ501210 is a controller that will provide drive single for the BQ500101 power section.
