BQ79616: Use the GPIO to switch the multiplexer channels.

Part Number: BQ79616

Tool/software:

Hi E2E,

My customer want to use the GPIO of BQ79616 to switch the multiplexer channels.

I have some questions I would like to clarify.

1.GPIO Config is an NVM register. Does this mean I can only configure it once using OTP?

2.If the NVM register can be read and written to, is there a risk of damage from high-frequency read/write operations?

3.Do you recommend using GPIO for controlling multiplexer applications?

Thanks!

  • Hello Tom,

1.GPIO Config is an NVM register. Does this mean I can only configure it once using OTP?

You can configure GPIO's without OTP'ing the device. However, if the part were to RESET, it will revert to Hi-Z functionality (Unless OTP'd). See Section 8.3.5 GPIO Configuration of the datasheet.

2.If the NVM register can be read and written to, is there a risk of damage from high-frequency read/write operations?

As long as the timing is within datasheet specifications, it should be okay!

3.Do you recommend using GPIO for controlling multiplexer applications?

Yes, that should be perfectly okay to do Slight smile.

    Best Regards,
