TPS51716: Power Solution for 256Gb (32GByte) DDR4 SODIMM module

Part Number: TPS51716
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65295,

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team,

I am currently working on a design that involves powering a 256Gb (32GByte) DDR4-2400 SODIMM, and I am considering using either the TPS65295 or the TPS51716 power management ICs.

In the datasheet, it is mentioned that the TPS65295 provides a VTT output with a current capacity of 1A (VTT1A). Could you kindly confirm if all rail's current ratings are sufficient for typical 32GB DDR4 SODIM applications?

Additionally, are there any recommended considerations or design tips for using the TPS65295 in such applications, or would the TPS51716 be a better fit in terms of meeting the DDR4 power requirements?

  • Hi,

TPS65295 is designed for DDR4 complete power solution. I'm not sure if it is sufficient for 32GB DDR4 SODIM application. Usually, you need to consider the real load current of your system. Compared to TPS51716, I think TPS65295 will be more suitable. Thanks.

  • Hi Aurora,

Thanks for your response. Is TPS65295 designed for single individual DDR4 component or DDR4 SODIM/UDIM modules? Have you ever tested TPS65295 with any DDR4 SODIM modules?

  • Hi,

I'm sorry I didn't test this device with DDR4 SODIM modules before. But I think it is for DDR4 memory power supplies. Maybe you can use see its datasheet and user guide for more details. Thanks.
