UCC12041-Q1: EMI test report

Part Number: UCC12041-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC12051-Q1,

Tool/software:

Hello expert,

Here are a few customer questions about EMI test, pls help support it:

1. The EMI test report is for UCC12051-Q1 not UCC12041-Q1 in the TI website, is UCC12051-Q1 report also suitable for UCC12041-Q1?

UCC12041-Q1 数据表、产品信息和支持 | 德州仪器 TI.com.cn

UCC12051-Q1 CISPR 25 FCC Report 2.0 (Rev. A) (ti.com.cn)

2. In the TEST report, what is the revision of CISPR 25? 2016 or 2021?

3. In the TEST report, the UCC12051-Q1 EVM can pass RE/CE Class 5 with 2pcs series Y capacitors as shown below.

What is the MPN of the Y capacitor?

Are the Y capacitors mandatory?

Can the EVM pass RE/CE class 5 if these Y capacitors are removed? Or which class can the EVM pass if these Y capacitor are removed?

Thanks!

  • Daniel,

    1. The EMI test report is for UCC12051-Q1 not UCC12041-Q1 in the TI website, is UCC12051-Q1 report also suitable for UCC12041-Q1?

    Yes, it applies for both.

    2. In the TEST report, what is the revision of CISPR 25? 2016 or 2021?

The report was originally developed on 04/16/2021 (see below) and International Standard 2021 CISPR25 was released on Dec. 2021 (from Google), so most likely it was based on 2016.

3.1 What is the MPN of the Y capacitor?

PN: 1825JA221KAT1A according to the BOM of PMP22845.

3.2 Are the Y capacitors mandatory?

Yes, they are necessary to pass CISPR25 Class 5 AS they help to attenuate CM noise.

    4. Can the EVM pass RE/CE class 5 if these Y capacitors are removed? Or which class can the EVM pass if these Y capacitor are removed?

As mentioned below, they are a necessary to pass CISPR25 Class 5. Our group always performs CISPR25 Class5 for Automotive Applications, I am not familiar with other classes.

    Thank you

  • hi

I am HW engineer of Hella.

    My comments as below:

    1. The EMI test report is for UCC12051-Q1 not UCC12041-Q1 in the TI website, is UCC12051-Q1 report also suitable for UCC12041-Q1?

    Yes, it applies for both.

There is no relevant note to indicate that they are the same. Can TI offer Official statement?

    a) What is the reason to choose this capacitor with 4000VDC rating voltage, is it for high voltage withstand test? If yes , pls. share the test condition and details to us.

    b) What is the reason to use 2 pcs series Y capacitor?

3.2 Are the Y capacitors mandatory?

Yes, they are necessary to pass CISPR25 Class 5 AS they help to attenuate CM noise.

a)Does the series capacitance value muse be 110pF?

b)Will other capacitance value also meet the EMC performance such as 1nF?

    4. Can the EVM pass RE/CE class 5 if these Y capacitors are removed? Or which class can the EVM pass if these Y capacitor are removed?

  • Liu, please see my answers below

There is no relevant note to indicate that they are the same. Can TI offer Official statement?

Both devices UCC12041-Q1 and UCC12051-Q1 are basically the same device. The only difference is the isolation requirements. UCC12040-Q1 is rated for basic isolation 3kVrms and UCC12051-Q1 5kVrms. Therefore, as mentioned above, this CISPR25 report applies for both.

    a) What is the reason to choose this capacitor with 4000VDC rating voltage, is it for high voltage withstand test? If yes , pls. share the test condition and details to us.

The reason of the 4000V rating voltage is the isolation voltage requirement between primary and secondary (5kVrms). The test conditions are explained in the report.

    b) What is the reason to use 2 pcs series Y capacitor?

The main reason is the isolation requirement of 5kVRms. The second reason is the need for just a ~100pF Y cap value (two 220pF in series).

    Thank you

  • hi Manuel Alva Hernandez

There are still 2 questions as below:

a)Does the series capacitance value muse be 110pF?

b)Will other capacitance value also meet the EMC performance such as 1nF?

  • Hi Kai, see my answers below:

a)Does the series capacitance value must be 110pF?

TI recommends this value for low EMI CISPR25. You can use higher values if desired (even lower CM noise), but this is the recommended value.

b)Will other capacitance value also meet the EMC performance such as 1nF?

You can use higher values, although keep in mind that as the capacitance increases, the SRF (Self Resonant Frequency) increases, which will not be as effective as a lower capacitance value.

    Thank you
