TPS53689T: TPS53689T VR14 Compliant Controller

Part Number: TPS53689T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS536C9T

Tool/software:

Hi All,

Good day ,

Our company is currently assessing the VR14 Compliant controller  like the TPS53689T multiphase IC,  thus the demand for  TPS53689T VR14 controllers is/are high ?

by the way, We want to develop the MCRPS (with Imon function), based on available information, Imon will only work on VR14 controllers, So we are assessing if the MCRPS (PSU) is also compatible to old system like VR13/VR13H, Right?

Thanks,

Carlos

  • Hi Carlos,

I am not sure what you mean by IMON only working on VR14 controllers.

TPS53689T and TPS536C9T support current source IMON power stages in addition to voltage source IMON power stages for output current monitoring. Older controllers are meant to be used with voltage source IMON power stages for output current monitoring.

The VR13/VR13H/VR14 compliance is for the SVID communication interface however, and does not imply how the controller monitors output current.

Could you give me more details on what you are looking for, so I can better answer your question? What information are you looking at for whether IMON will work on a controller or not?

    Regards,

    Troy

  • Hi Troy,

    Good day

    Thanks for your response

Made below sample block diagram as for illustration only

MCRPS will provide Imon signal to Isys pin  while the E-fuse/ PDB  will provide Vmon signal to Vsys Pin.

I noticed that VR13/HC controllers don't have Isys and Vsys pin, Right? please correct me if I am wrong.

    Thanks so much

  • Hi Troy,

Forgot to ask if TPS53689T are also compatible with AMD Processor?

    Thanks Again,

    Carlos

  • Hi Carlos,

Thanks for clarifying. You are correct that the older controllers do not have an ISYS pin. VR14 controllers, like TPS53689T and TPS536C9T, which support PSYS do have an ISYS pin however.

TPS53689T does not support SVI3, but can be used with AMD processor if it's okay to communicate over PMBus instead.

    Regards,

    Troy
