TPS63900: Current limit feature with supercap

Hi Experts,

We have question about TPS63900 current limit feature and how it works in practice.

If the regulator is set to 1mA and 5v output and the output is charging a supercap, how is the current regulated at the input?

I can only see detail relating to short protection which suggests that the output voltage needs to fall below 1.25v? If the capacitor is charger to 3v however and tries to charge the capacitor with more than 1mA it seems that it will allow that to occur.

Can more info be provided on this?

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi  Archie,

Please check the table 7-4 in DS as below. current limit for this device is on averange.Which means the peak current may higher than 1mA.

Once the output voltage is higher than 1.25V, the current limit will go back to 1mA automatically.

    Regards
