TPS650864: Can Vin of Buck and mosfet be on a different Vin from that of PMIC

Part Number: TPS650864

Tool/software:

Hi

We are using TPS6508641RSKT to power XQZU19EG-2FFQB1517I. We are using implementation 6.4 as per scea113 document. Our input voltage is 5V and hence we have used boost converter to boost to 6V and feed the PMIC. However, for the external buck(VCCINT) and MOSFETs can we use the 5V?.

We have chosen a boost of 4A current rating and hence we want PMIC alone to be loaded on the boost regulator. Please let us know if this would affect any power sequencing w.r.t VCCINT and the other voltages

  • Hi,

Yes, this will be okay. The external MOSFETs and buck can operate on the V_IN (5V), while the system operates on the boosted 6V.
This should not affect timing, just be cautious of the following:

There is a diagram Figure 9-7 in section 9.2.5 of the TPS650864 datasheet that shows this application with 5 V input and a boost converter. This may be a helpful reference.

    Best Regards,
    Sarah
