UCC27301A: External Bootstrap Diode

Part Number: UCC27301A

Tool/software:

Hello team,

Is it okay to add external bootstrap diode to UCC27301A? (Like on the figure below.)

I know there is internal diode, but my customer want more current to the bootstrap capacitor.

Best Regards,
Kei Kuwahara

  • Hey Kei,

Thank you for reaching out regarding this question with the UCC27301A.

Yes, adding an external diode in parallel with the internal bootstrap diode is acceptable and is a good idea if high average current is expected through the bootstrap diode.

When selecting this diode, ensure that it is rated to at least the same voltage rating as the MOSFETs or higher than the maximum switch node voltage. It should be a fast recovery or Schottky diode with low forward voltage so that the majority of the current is through the external diode instead of the internal diode.

    Thank you,
