Good day!
I believe there is an error in the SEPIC example schematic - there ought to be a junction at the circled positions. Other SEPIC circuits in other data sheets (as well as similar schematics in this data sheets) have the top net as VCC and the bottom as GND, rather than GND only connecting to L2 etc.
