BQ25756: Enabling Charging Mode

Part Number: BQ25756
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Tool/software:

Hi,

I need to enable charging mode on the BQ25756 to charge an external battery. Could you please clarify the register settings required to enable charging and control the charging current and voltage?

Any guidance on the necessary I2C commands and configurations to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hello Sankar,

Are you using an MCU or you using an EV2400 and BQStudio charge a battery?

The BQ25756 EVM User's Guide should explain how to do this. Let me know if you have any specific questions that you aren't sure about.

  • Hi Ethan,

Thanks for your response! I'm using the BQ25657RRVR in my design and need help enabling the charging mode to charge an external battery. Could you guide me through the register settings required to enable charging?

I’d appreciate any information on how to configure this correctly.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Sankar,

Charging is enabled by default in the BQ25756. The register is EN_CHG=1.

The register to change the charge current is ICHG_REG. You'll want to set the BQ25756 charge current to the battery charge current recommendation.

Keep in mind that the datasheet answers a lot of questions about the registers. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the registers.
