Dears,
We have output (+54V_OUT) hot swap application, how do we protect it to avoid damaging for MOSFET and LM5066I? Thanks.
Please place caps and tvs close to Vin pin. Please remove zero ohm at Vin pin. Looks to be abs max violation due to Vin jump. Please share filled design calculator for review.
Hi Kunal,
I mean the the output, the output of our design are connector with cables. Output connector have 54V and hot plug in the another board, On the output side, how to do to protect it?

Hi Kunal,
I do both of LM5066 and LM5066I calculator.
Not yet, but I need to do something for preventing FET and LM5066i failed when 54V output to hot plug in board.
Sorry, please explain on "Are we seeing FET and LM5066i failing?" you mean. I think that you mean FET and LM5066i are already damaged, right?
Hi Juin,
Please make below changes to improve design margin
1. Add placeholder for another TVS diode at the input in parallel
2. Use CL=50mV and double the Rsense value. This allows to set lower power limit and improves SOA margin for the design.
rest everything looks fine

Rakesh
Hi Juin,
To clamp positive peak you can use TVS same like input at output. But to clamp negative peak effectively you will need schottky as TVS are not that fast.
Hi Kunal,
Thanks for your response. For safty design, it is better to add 2 more TVS and still keep schottky at output, right?
