LM5116: What’s the purpose of the 100nF cap on the EVM?

Part Number: LM5116

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

I have a small question regarding LM5116.

Should pin1 (Vin) be decoupled against PGND or AGND.

Both EvalBoards have a 100nF cap from Vin to AGND but this cap is less close placed than a bigger 1uF cap from Vin to PGND (which is placed as close as possible to pin1.

Therefore I assume that the 1uF is the decoupling cap for Pin1. What’s the purpose of the 100nF cap?

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Wouter Kragt

  • Hello Wouter

Inside the IC, there are (#1) circuit blocks which are supplied from VIN and referenced to AGND, Also, there are (#2) circuit blocks which are supplied from VIN and referenced to PGND. The 0.1uF helps making the #1 block's supply rail stable. The 1uF helps making the #2 block's supply rail stable.
