UCC28950-Q1: 200W Standby power supply

Part Number: UCC28950-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi

We are working in a Automotive power supply design project.

I noticed that the switching frequency chosen for both the transformer and the output inductor is the same in the SLUC222 and SLUA560D documents (June 2011, revised March 2022). Could you please explain why the same frequency was selected for both Transformer and output inductor designs in the PSFB?

  • Hello,

Your inquiry is under review and I will get back to you shortly.

  • Hello,

Even though the primary of the transformer is switched at half the frequency of the output inductor.  The transformer applies energy bidirectionally across the transformer.  Duty cycle is applied in both directions.  So the affective switching frequency in regards to selecting transformer turns ratio, magnetizing inductances is the same as the output inductor.  So the application note is correct.
