Hi Team,

I am trying to build to build a BMS system with BQ76952. Even though it supports high side FET connections with inbuilt charge pumps for the FETS, I would like to know if a need a FET driver to drive 4-6 FET to control charge and discharge of the battery. For instance my primary output would be 48V 150 Amps current. Could you please comment your thoughts?

Hello Criton,

You should be fine using the inbuilt charge pumps for the FETs. This Multiple FETs with the BQ76952, BQ76942 Battery Monitors (Rev. A) application note should be helpful.

Hi Alexis,

Many thanks for getting in touch when I calculated my gate current for the MOSFET that I choose it is approximately 8mA (Ig=Qg/trise). There will 4 CHG and 4 DSG FETs connected in parallel in the circuit. Correct me if I am wrong, from my understanding after reading the document which you mentioned in the above post it is possible to drive them right?

Hello Criton,

It's possible to drive 4 CHG and 4 DSG FETs connected in parallel, however, it won't be able to drive them at 8mA.

Did you mean 8mA or 8uA? The charge pump can typically maintain 10V with up to about 40uA load on the drivers.
