BQ76972: config-update mode

Part Number: BQ76972

Tool/software:

Chip BQ76972, it is stated in this manual that the VNet UPDATE mode is only available in full access mode. And another manual states that it is also possible to write in VNet UPDATE mode in non sealed mode.
1、What is the difference between these two statements?

2、Why is the VNet UPDATE mode only available in full access mode, but it can also be written in non sealed mode?
3、Also, is the chip in non sealed mode by default when powered on?

4、I just want to use OTP programming to set parameters. Should it be done in fully open mode or unsealed mode in the VNet UPDAYE mode?

  • Hello Ping,

    1. Some settings in the device can be modified while the device is operating, however, if you want to be able to modify ALL settings, it needs to be in CONFIG_UPDATE mode. Can you clarify which manuals you are referring to?

    2. Full access mode gives you the ability to modify ALL settings by entering CONFIG_UPDATE mode. CONFIG_UPDATE mode stops device operation while settings are being updated.

    3. The chip is non-sealed by default when powered on.

    4. Please refer to this BQ769x2 Calibration and OTP Programming Guide.

Chapter 8 Device Security in the BQ76972 Technical Reference Manual explains this all in more detail.

    Best Regards,
    Alexis
