TPSM863252: About Buck converter operating in DCM

Part Number: TPSM863252
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM863257

Tool/software:

Hi team,

We are designing with the TPSM863252 regulator to meet the attached requirements. Since the inductor is integrated into the TPSM863252, it appears from ripple current (ΔI) calculation that the regulator would be primarily operate in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) under our specific conditions.

We have the following questions:

  1. Will operating the TPSM863252 in DCM cause any ringing in the output voltage due to the continuous turning on and off of the inductor? If so, how will this affect the output ripple voltage?
  2. Is it advisable for TPSM863252 to operate continuously in DCM for our requirements
  3. Can TI provide any data or documentation regarding the performance of the TPSM863252 when operating in DCM?

* Ripple current is calculated using formulation provided in SLVA477B (application report)
