TPS3842: Minimum and maximum value of R1/R2 resistors of SENSE PIN

Part Number: TPS3842

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer checks the specification of TPS3842.

And I can only find orderable part number TPS3842A010 and TPS3842A011, these 2 parts have fixed 700mV threshold.

1. How much is the current consumption of fixed type when it is working? Is it 850nA?

2. Can I detect 24V with TPS3842A010 or TPS3842A011 using SENSE pin resistors(R1 and R2)?

2-1. If yes, What is minimum and maximum value of R1 and R2? My customer asked they can use 960Mohm, followed the fomular below;

R1= Vmon / Isense = 24V / 25nA =  960Mohm

2-2. If not, what is specific part number of TPS3842 which have adjustable threshold? Can I order it?

3. Could you recommend other part which can support 24V threshold?

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    Thanks for your question. Please find the device naming convention in below.

    All the released variants are currently undervoltage and adjustable variants with different hysteresis.

    1. Supply current should be the same for the fixed and adjustable variant. For fix variant the sense current is defined as 1.35 uA (typ), 2.5 uA (max) and adjustable variant has 25 nA current sense current.

    2. Yes, you can connect the sense pin to 24V through a resistor divider for the adjustable variant. Please find the a sample connection in below

    960 Mohm sounds a lot for no reason. I would recommend using 50kOhm  - 1MOhms max. This should be good for most of the applications.

    3. We have wide portfolio that can directly connect 12V/24V batteries. You can check TPS3760, TPS37, TPS38, TPS3762

    If you have more specific requirement I can help with finding the best fit for your customer design.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,

    Sila
