BQ27426: Fuel Gauge Configuration for 80% Charge Termination

Tool/software:

I read the Quick Start Guide and TRM and learned that the taper rate allows bq27426 to synchronize with the battery’s charge termination point (i.e., the fully charged state).

If the product application consistently stops charging at 80% of battery capacity, will the bq27426’s fuel gauging function correctly, or are there additional recommended parameters that need to be configured?

To confirm, you only want to utilize 80% of the battery capacity where SOC=100% is 80% of the battery's capacity?

Yes, MCU will stop charging once it receives an 80% SOC reading from the gauge IC and will rescale to 100% for system reporting.

Hi,

Understood, so what you should do is configure reserve capacity to be 20% of your pack and that will scale the percentage for you.

Hi Diego,

In this application, the gauging IC will not reach the taper rate setting to sync with the battery’s fully charged state. My question is, will this affect gauging accuracy?

Can you further explain why that is?

If the gauge does not detect full charge this will affect gauging accuracy.
