BQ40Z80: Can I disable the delay timer on protections without disabling the protection itself

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team and Experts,

as the title states I would like to have the protection features on some of the protections of the BQ40z80 without having the trip functionality (only have Alert). This is relevant since the system the BMU is being designed for might under certain circumstances have to continue discharging despite a protection event occuring, for longer than the maximum timer of 255s.
Q1: Is it possible to set a protection to alert only, to disable the trip setting OperationStatus()[XDSG] = 1 or to increase the timer beyond 255s?

Also since I am already here, unrelated Q2: Why is there two settings for a short circuit? Maybe I am missing the bigger picture here.

Kind regards,

Simon Calvini

  • Hello Simon,

If a protection is enabled then they will have an alert and trip feature enable. It is not possible to turn off the trip feature if the protection is enabled. The timer setting is only allowed up to 255s.

There is 2 settings for short circuit for added protection. This can account for random short duration current pulses in the system that should not trip short circuit.

    Regards,

    Adrian
