LM51772: Can i use GaN HEMTs (FETs)

Part Number: LM51772

Tool/software:

Hi TI expert team,

has anyone ever operated the LM51772 with low voltage GaN HEMTs as external MOSFETs?
If so, at what switching frequency and what input and output values?

Because I would like to try this, but the Ugs must not rise above 6V. According to the data sheet of the LM51772 there is a boot-strap over-voltage threshold from max 5.9V.

But if I understand correctly, the voltage can then rise above 5.9V, right? And that would demage the GaN HEMT.

Thanks for the information

Manuel

  • Hi Manuel,

yes, the LM51772 can be used with GaN MOSFETs due to the Gate driver signal level of 5V.

Adding some protective Zener diodes to prevent spikes on the gate signals making issues on the GaN might helpful.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
