Using the UC3638 for Closed-Loop Temperature Regulation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC3638

Does anyone know if there's a better way to achieve a Closed-Loop Temperature Regulation using the UC3638 (or another PWM Controller IC) to drive an H-Bridge for use with the thermoelectric Peltier modules? I wanted the operating frequency to be able to go to 500kHz (or above) as in the case of the UC3638. Is there any literature or application  notes (other than the TI SLUA202A - from September 2001) which can assist me in circuit design? I am new to using Peltier devices. Extreme Thanks.

  • There should be a lot of references available on the temperature close-loop control. One key factor is usually considered its big time constant as called "pure delay" or "pure lag". If  your application does not care a lot on the potential overshoot, you can use a simple integral control. But if you do care about that, the control algrithms are over there while they can be complicated. It depends on your application. I suggest searching the internet to find a similar application to yours as your design reference.
