I have a couple of questions regarding the BQ25619 charger IC and its compatibility with super capacitor charging, as well as recommendations for an appropriate charger IC.

  1. Compatibility of BQ25619 with Super Capacitor Charging
    Could you please confirm if the BQ25619 can be used to charge a super capacitor? If not, could you explain the limitations or reasons why it may not be suitable?

  2. Recommendation for 1.5A Charger IC
    If the BQ25619 is not compatible, could you recommend a suitable charger IC that can support a 1.5A charging current for a super capacitor with the following specifications:

    Hi Tom,

    The main reason is because BQ25619 cannot fast charge the supercaps from 0V.  BQ25619 will provide a slower precharge current at low voltages due to built in battery precharge phase. This increases the charge time for the supercaps.

    I would recommend BQ24640 for this application.
