TL783: TL783 get hot when operation.

Part Number: TL783

Tool/software:

Hi experts,

My design use part TL783CKTTR as LDO Vin = 27V (+- 10%) to Vout = 5V.

My schematic here:

When testing , I found that the IC TL783 quite hot (after turn on about 15 min the temperature increase 30 degree to ~60 degree, I load < 0.3A).

Can you suggest me the reason may cause this high temperature?

Thanks,

  • Hi Long,

Assuming that the ILOAD is around 150mA, the power dissipation across the LDO is PDISS = (VIN - VOUT)*ILOAD ≈ 3W. This is a significant amount of power being dissipated inside the LDO, which is causing it to heat up. At lower load currents the rise in temperature should be lower. Thanks!
