TPS1663: What is the failure mode of an eFuse

What is the failure mode of the TPS1663 eFuse? Typically MOSFETs fail short which in a fusing application would not be a good thing.

I found this TI app note on eFuse safety (https://www.ti.com/lit/fs/slvaeo5/slvaeo5.pdf?ts=1730723969899) and it states “TI's portfolio includes some eFuses certified to IEC 62368-1, in which the devices are subjected to a Safe During Single Point Failure Test.” Are you able to provide any more information, possibly test results, regarding the single point failure testing done on your eFuses?

Yes I am aware it is IEC 62368-1 certified and that the certificate (not the report) is available in the technical documentation section of TPS1663 product page. The report is what I am looking for in addition to a clear answer to my question about the failure mode of the TPS1663.

For report you need NDA through local FAE and sales.

Are you asking about the conditions where TPS1663 may get failed?

Partly yes. What are the conditions where it may fail, but more importantly, once it has failed what state is the device left in? Is it possible for it to fail short circuit from VIN to VOUT?

Hello Brandon,

Device fails when operating above the abs-max rating.

It depends on the failure. Most of the failed cases IN to OUT doesn't short.

operating the device under safe operating condition ensures safe operation.
