BQ25758: GaN FET destroys IC

Why is it not possible to use the IC with GaN FET's?
We tried to use it with the Infineon (GaN Systems) GS61004B and always destroyed the IC..is there a reason for that?
We used this configuration from the datasheet:

    Hello Daniel,

    It's not possible to use GaN FETs with the BQ25758. The gate leakage from a GaN FET is too much for the BQ25758 to drive in a 100% duty cycle. I recommend using silicon FETs instead. Let me know if this makes sense.

    Just for my own notes, can you tell my why you wanted to use GaN FETs in your system?
