TPSM861253: Inquiry on Using TPSM861253RDXR with Different Inductor for 12V to 3.3V Conversion

Part Number: TPSM861253

Tool/software:

I am currently using the TPSM861253RDXR buck converter for converting 12V to 3.3V, and we are utilizing a 2.2uH 7A rated inductor. Due to size constraints in our design, we are considering using a 2.2uH 1.6A rated inductor with an 84mOhm DCR.  output requirement Vout=3.3V Iout=1A

Could you please provide guidance on the potential impacts this change may have on the converter's output performance? Specifically, we are interested in understanding:

  • How the lower current rating and higher DCR might affect the efficiency and thermal performance.

  • Any potential changes in ripple current or stability.

  • Recommendations for mitigating any adverse effects.
