TPS62A02: Unexpected noise

Part Number: TPS62A02

Tool/software:

From data sheet page 17, Figure 8-23. Load Transient shows that even with load current 0.3A to 1.0A, the noise is below 50mVpp.

However, with actual experiment, the noise level is beyond 400mVpp when loaded 1.0A.

need some suggestion to reduce the noise.

  • Hello Yee Tat Chua,

thanks for reaching out in E2E.

In general the layout is an important step to maintain the high performance of the TPS62A02. Short and wide GND connections of the input and output caps are most critical. Please refer to the layout guidelines in section 8.4 of the datasheet. You could evaluate the TPS62A02PEVM-018 to see an optimized layout example.

In your experiment, did you evaluate the steady state 1A load case or some load transients (as you were referring to the Figure 8-23, which is showing a load transient response)? The recommended setup TPS62A02 is listed in table 8-3 (page 12) of the datasheet. The device is optimized to operate with an 1uH inductance. The inductor has an impact on the load transient performance. A smaller inductance (for example 470nH) will result in better transient performance. A higher output capacitance can help reduce the output voltage ripple.

However, if you need even faster load transient response then you might want to evaluate one of our performance devices, such as the TPS628302.

    Best regards,

    Andreas.
